Where to Go During an Earthquake: Evacuation Centers in Metro Manila

When a major earthquake, (“The Big One”) hits, knowing where to go can save lives. The MMDA has divided Metro Manila into four quadrants: North, East, West, and South. This setup helps organize disaster response and evacuation faster. Each area has designated evacuation centers chosen for their accessibility, open space, and proximity to main roads and hospitals.

Metro Manila’s Four Quadrants

1. North Quadrant

Cities covered: Caloocan, Valenzuela, Quezon City, San Juan, Mandaluyong
Evacuation Centers:

  • Veterans Memorial Golf Course

  • University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman

2. East Quadrant

Cities covered: Pasig, Marikina
Evacuation Centers:

  • LRT-2 Santolan Depot

  • Marikina Boys Town

  • Red Cross Marikina

  • ULTRA Pasig

3. West Quadrant

Cities covered: City of Manila, Malabon, Navotas
Evacuation Center:

  • Intramuros Golf Course

4. South Quadrant

Cities covered: Las Piñas, Makati, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Pateros, Taguig, Pasay
Evacuation Center:

  • Villamor Air Base Golf Course

Additional Evacuation and Operation Centers

Aside from the main quadrant centers, the MMDA has identified several operation and staging areas that can serve as evacuation camps for affected residents.

  • North: Veterans Memorial Golf Course, UP Diliman

  • East: LRT-2 Santolan Depot, Marikina Boys Town, Red Cross Marikina, ULTRA Pasig

  • West: Intramuros Golf Course

  • South: Villamor Air Base Golf Course

Other Possible Evacuation Sites

MMDA also mentioned that athletic fields, sports arenas, memorial parks, churches, and gyms designated by local government units (LGUs) may be used as temporary evacuation centers in Metro Manila and nearby areas.

Alternate Rescue Routes

If bridges and major roads become impassable, the Pasig River will serve as an alternate route for rescue and relief operations, allowing faster movement of personnel and supplies throughout the city.
